Redundancy and CSA

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can advise or has any experience as im about to enter new territory with regards to the csa.

Im a NRP, paying on the csa2 i believe but im always told im a clerical case.
Anyway to cut a long story short, im about to be made redundant and have no idea what maintenance i will pay when not working.
Someone said its paid out of benefit re; job seekers allowance but what happens to
the PWC who wont be getting as much as she had before. What i dont want is arrears building and not knowing about it.

Many thanks for any help.

You will need to notify CSA once you start to claim JSA, and your assessment will then be £5 per week. You wont build up arrears while on JSA as long as you notify CSA. If you dont they will continue with the previous amount.
If you are on speaking terms with the PWC and you can afford it you could possibly contact them to pay a little extra if you think they will be struggling, but if they are on IS if they dont work they will only be allowed to keep £20 per week of any maintenance
  • Thanks Karenx So, you have to claim JSA? Also as the PWC is working im not sure what she can claim?
To be honest were not on the best of terms though thats us and i wont let my daughter go without.

Well you dont have to claim JSA no. Why would you not want a little extra help while looking for a job?
You could maybe contact the PWC and explain the situation and offer to make a contribution based on what you can afford. If she is working then she will be able to keep all maintenance you give her!
  • I dont envisage and hope not to be off work for too long cant afford to tbh. But if thats the only way i can stop arrears i will have to claim it. Im very wary about the csa as when they first took money exactly a year ago, they were not the friendliest people and maybe i was a little naive.

As soon as you find out you are redundant you must contact them both by phone ( ask for the nice lady/gentlemans name and be polite) and also write to them by recorded delivery just in case they forgot your phone call.
If you have any arrers they will still be there when you get a new job.
  • Hi Spit,
Will you be given 'payment in lieu of notice', or is it a simple matter of redundancy? I ask only because this would be considered income to the CSA.

Good luck in the job hunt, not a very nice thing to worry about, but you sound like you are a nice NRP with your childs interest at heart. All the best, and good luck!

Hi - thanks for your kidn words.
It looks like i could be paid off for month in advance and obviously would have no worries paying that months payment as well. What happens afterwards? i.e redundancy payment etc. thanks

Advise them of your redundancy in writing only
Send it recorded delivery (send all correspondence by this method)
    Keep the recorded delivery receipt
    Keep copies of everything
Do not deal with them on the phone
    Build a paper file
