Puzzled about dental treatment options

Dinnae worry Toothsmith, I do understand why it costs so much and I'm not complaining about the amount they want. I know how much it costs to keep a business on the road in terms of premises, staff, training, bills, regulation and so on; it's more to do with the cost to me right now V. the long-term effectiveness of the proposed treatment.
Plus, based on what you're saying, I'm wondering if the original diagnoseis was correct in the first place. Unless either a) I misheard both times, tho' I'm reasonably sure I didn't or b) there are exceptions to what you and Jugglebug were saying in terms of how vertical root fractures can be caused.
Any ideas?0 -
He could just have been covering all the bases.
Very difficult to tell without seeing you, and just having your version of what was said.
(not saying you're making stuff up, but patients very often misinterpret what's being said to them)How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
None of us can see your xrays or mouth so the best person to diagnose and treatment plan you is a dentist you trust.
There are no guarantees with dental treatment particularly after trauma as you often can't fully assess treatment until after you start. Crowns could last 6 weeks or 30 years. Most of the lifespan of your crowns will be down to factors beyond your dentists control ie the amount of damage and the length of time left between the original accident and starting treatment. Also the care you put into looking after your teeth. If you are already wearing partial dentures, don't attend a dentist regularly and have a history of lots of dental treatment then obviously your oral health is not of the best and unless you are going to make long term permanent changes anything other than simple treatment will follow your previous history of treatment followed by extraction.0 -
Ok guys, thanks again for all your help. I'll mull over what you said during the holidays and try to make a decision early on in the New Year. Have a good Xmas all of you.0
