    It's not compulsory yet, Ceph to buy food from a supermarket.
    Lots of options, grow your own for instance. Foraging, shop around, even raid the supermarket bins.
    We have consumer groups, sites like this, trading standards more than enough protection.

    This isn't an individual consumer issue it's a global environmental one. For every person who bothers about waste there are plenty that don't, hence we are having to grow far more food than necessary in a world which is supposed to be going short. Quite a proportion of greenhouse gases are from Agriculture. Regulation is the only solution.
