Bank account and Bankcruptcy Query

Hi. I was declared bankrupt at my local County Court two weeks ago and I'm awaiting the OR's telephone interview. I was the first case of the morning and later that same afternoon the OR rang me to collect some info. I asked him about my 2 bank accounts, both basic cashcard types, one Nationwide Flex (opened 4 years ago) and the other a Co-Op Cashminder (opened 1 year ago) He said he has no interest in either because I don't owe money to them. He mentioned the Nationwide will likely close their a/c but the Co-Op are sympathetic and they'll probably let me keep it. Neither a/c is frozen yet. I've had a temp job for 3 weeks and I'm now on JSA again, so, would I be breaking the law if I draw my wages/benefits out of my Co-Op a/c in the meantime to live on? Also, do I need to write to the Co-Op and tell them I've gone bankrupt? Any thoughts/advice very much appreciated.

No you won't be breaking the law as he has said he has no interesat in the account. Definatly stick with Co-op though. Just ring them and they to tell them about the BR.

Just do as Tiger suggests, that is all I did, my Nationwide account has only just been frozen, went BR 4 weeks ago.

I've used my co op account since the day I went BR no problem
OR seemed quite pleased I already had some where for my wages to go so that there was no messing about

  • meant to add, my OR still does not have our co-op account details as I have been unable to speak to him, although that may change tomorrow!

But the girl I spoke to on BR day said it would be ok anyway so I have carried on regardless! Bills need to be paid, its nearly christmas and I have just had 1 childs birthday and another in 3 weeks so I can't wait to see if all ok, had to assume it was.
  • Thanks for the info so far guys, it's nice to hear from other people who have been/going through the Big B. Let me know how things go...
  • My Barclays account was frozen for a day. I explained to the bank prior to going BR that I was and they said they wouldn't freeze it unless ordered to, as there was nothing owing on it and it had about £300 in, which it appears they were. They made a phone call and it was unfrozen and apart from having to hand in cheque books, Visa Delta cards and being issued with Visa Electrons instead, it was "carry on as normal".
