Can i claim compensation?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm new to buying a house and using this.
We are first time buyers, have found a house and have done everything we can up to this point. We have our mortgage, have paid our solicitors fees, they have requested funds from nation wide. We were due to complete last week and exchange at the same time. But, our sellers are not paying the redemption Charge. This is holding everything up and i'm not sure what i can do.
Our solictiors are chasing, but now we will have to pay rent mortgage and stamp duty if this goes into the new year! Can i claim anything or get compensation? We haven't exchange so no complete date was set so they haven't broken any rules or contracts. It's just really frustrating.

Hi and welcome to MSE
Unfortunately (though I stand to be corrected) there isn't anything you can claim, it's just a very frustrating, annoying situation.0 -
I thought as much. Thank you though0

you won't have to pay stamp duty if you don't complete on the purchase and your solicitor should have sent the money back to Nationwide if he couldn't complete. If he hasn't sent the money back and you are incurring interest I would expect him to pay for that to be frank.Happily an ex mortgage broker!0

You know i didn't even know they could send it back so i will ask if they have! Thank you0

If you hadn't exchanged contracts the seller isn't liable for any of your costs as they have no contractual obligation to you.
Sorry0 -
You could reduce your offer.
