well done for making a start. That first step is the hardest. I know £52k is a lot but selling your car and clearing £4k is amazing and you should be proud of yourself. Shows you mean business. A cheaper car may be cheaper to insure and maybe cheaper on petrol too so that will reduce your monthly out goings. Well Done and keep posting

hi all - just an update for you!

today was a sad day in the funkymonkey household. I sold my beloved Car. It was an 03 registration Convertable Smart Car - gorgous in every way but as we all know we have to make a start somewhere!

I got £5000 for it and bought an M reg micra for £900 with a years MOT and 6 months tax.

so thats £4K off of my debts in one big chunk - goodbye mr MBNA card!

i had put the remaining £5K finance onto MBNA so there is a grand left on it but at 0%

But at least my 14.9% HP is over at £140 a month!

someone console me please - and tell me im doing the right thing lol. Im a little upset.

course you are chick. You have realised that stuff has to go, and you did it. That's one card paid off already. Well done!

Now get round the house and ebay anything not nailed down. Have you looked at cheaper broadband - you can get it from 13.99 nowadays. Try doing the grocery challenges, meal planning and keeping a spending diary - these things have helped me a lot.

Has Mr Funkymonkey come on board? It's vital you do this thing together, otherwise you may find it tough going.

Don't forget to balance transfer, as you have some nice 0% ers there. Might not save much, but every little bit helps.

Hope you find us all a helpful (if a little insane - living on the budget of a fieldmouse does that to you, you know). Good luck and keep us posted!
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!

Well done. It's hard, but you've made the right decision and taken a great step towards getting rid of the debts. You should feel proud of yourself :) And a car is just a bunch of metal, if you've got one that gets you from A to B then that's all that matters. Keep positive :)
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal

thanks all - i feel much better today! im really enjoying playing with my new micra - i have spent £70 in halfords though buying oil / oil filter / air filter and fuel filter and have spent two hours changing them myself this morning! im quite the mechanic now lol - it is such and easy car to play with! i also bought a haynes manual as well lol. it has a ratling timing chain but this is common with old micras and they are chains so rarely snap.

got my bread in the oven and am having home made chicken soup later!

Oh i almost forgot! i went to a car boot sale this morning and bought a new bread tin for 20p with farmhouse edged in the side so my loaf will have farmhouse writen on it when it comes out of the oven LOL - my life is now complete!
