Heat click pads/ handwarmers

Hi guys and a merry xmas to you all. Given that i spent today in a 2hr traffic queue which is ridiculous since it normally takes 5 mins to get home from work ive decided it might be an idea to invest in some heat click pads.

Now after looking around i've heard 2 types of rumours/advice.

one group of people say these hand warmers are useless and a novelty and are a big rip off. They hardly heat up and last a few mins. (funnily enough one person told me that some of them get too hot and burn your skin )

and the other say that they are brilliant and definately worth buying.

What do you guys reckon and are there any good deals out there? i've only seen some in my local wilkinsons and online the heat in a click brand.

Thanks for the feedback you give in advance and hope everyone got home from the snow okay tonite!

I have bought them from my husband and the ones I got him last for up to an hour. I think they work a treat from him and he suffers from chillblains and it has helped keep them at bay. He seems to think putting them in his gloves seem to work well and last just enough time to get to or from work or on a lunchtime walk.

    Cheers

I got some from the Gadget shop a few years back. I certainly wouldn't say they got too hot at all and the heat didn't last long (less than 30 mins from memory). They get less effective as they age too.

Also, as they get older they get harder and harder to get back to liquid once solid. At first I could just put ours in a jug of boiling water and give it a poke to make sure it all submerged. Last time I used it, it wouldn't all "melt" so as soon as it started to cool down, it just went solid again.

I guess if you have a microwave it's easier (we don't).
  • can't put those ones in the microwave as they have the metal disks on the inside... will probably set your microwave on fire (as I once did when I accidentally put some foil wrapped food in it once!) lol

Love 'em and have bought loads for xmas presents. Some were from Lidl @ 99p and others from Home Style (??) think that's what it's called. They were with the personal care goods like bandages for knees, hot water bottles, etc. and about £1.10 for two pretty heart shaped ones.

Spending an age outside watching sport I find them so helpful for keeping the chills at bay and yes, often they only stay hot for 30 mins then remain warm. Every little helps when the wind is blowing.

Don't put them in the microwave as they have a metal disc in them. Make sure they are very cold before you click them again and you get a better heat. They don't always last an age because you do squeeze them but at 50p each if you can get ten goes out of them they're worth it.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

Ok, these ones aren't as nice looking as the ones that Firefly has described! But there seems to be 12 'Fuel Sticks' for £1.99 and last for 6 hours (apparently!)

Not sure about the name but the site is outdoor gear so i guess they know what they're talking about! lol

Edit: On reflection they are charcoal warmers for a hand warmer, which is £6.00 but good value as you can re-use it!
  • thanks for the feedback guys.

i think the ones at lidl sound interesting and i'll have a look tomorow if i can find any there.

as for the ones from the gadget shop ( or red5 which is my local one) they are £8 for 2 which seems a bit steep so i was going to get a check on them before i buy.
Are there any brands that are particularly good?
as for the going solid part and not melting. I saw some in debhanams and he said they last forever!!!!
  • Dunelm Mill had them for 99p and £2 - fun shapes eg hand, bought them for the kids
  • Second the Lidl ones - I used to get bad sinus pain and used to use these as pain killers, they lasted for ages.

You boil them in a pan to re-activate them. So far mine are still going and have had them for about 3 years.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
