Money Essentials

Options
Hey Guys,

Im in a bit of battle with a loan Broker about returning me my fees i paid, they could only offer me a loan with a guarntor and i wasnt intrested so asked for the monies back. i have wrote and emailed them cancelling my account, i have emailed them asking of next steps ect i was advised to call and note my card details for the refund so i did, i emailed again for a timescale and was told it could take up to six months!

Im not happy with this so i told them i would seek advise from the financial ombudsman...have i done the right thing? will they help me? any other ideas to get them to move there butts?

Thanks Amy

Unfortunately the law does state that if a broker does not find you a suitable loan within 6 months they must refund you your fee minus £5. So legally they can take 6 months to refund you.
I'd stop emailing them & write to them recorded delivery again requesting your fee money back.
Sorry can't be of more help but they are legally allowed to take 6 months
  • I've had a similar experience with Money Essentials - however, I had asked very specific questions before giving my card details. However, my friend called them later and asked the same questions only to be informed that she would indeed require a guarantor, so the person I had spoken to lied to me, mislead into thinking I would not need a guarantor, even after I had asked him. With that I promptly cancelled my application and have placed numerous phone calls and emails to them regarding my refund. Amy Reed emailed me stating categorically that a refund would happen, and apologised for the team members actions- i'm still waiting for the refund...
  • suppose i should start looking at it as a savings however i will get that money back if its the last thing i do...Integrity rules thats the same as what happened with me, nothing about a guarantor was ever mentioned tho! the joys huh...there people have real attitude problems aswell!!!
  • I have also applied for a loan with Money Essentials. I have poor credit rating and I got a loan offer with a guarantee to. I can’t remember being told that I would need a guarantee but i managed to get someone anyway. After i paid my fee i did receive my paperwork fairly quickly and the repayment was what they quoted. I have received my loan now and overall i feel that Money Essentials done what i paid them to do. After all i do have to understand that i have poor credit and its hard to get money these days. I did phone in to ask why I needed a guarantee and I was told i had another offer without a guarantee for a lower amount than i wanted-i needed the full money so i ended up with guarantee offer, maybe you should phone in and ask if you are still looking for a loan?
