Totally Confused - CSA

Having changed my bank account and transferring all my payments last month, I thought everything would be fine. Got a letter at the start of the month saying that we missed the CSA payment for the start of the month.
Fair enough. My wife, who's children it is, phoned them up and was going to set up new Direct Debit details, and they said that's fine and that the outstanding balance will be taken along with the next payment at the beginning of January. At the time, we offered to clear the outstanding payment
Now we have received a letter stating that we owe £124 (we usually pay about £78?) and it needs to be paid imediately or we can face legal action.
Totally confused and really not what I need at Christmas time.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Don't just ignore the letter or they'll just slap a DEO on your salary & take whatever they like.
Preferably, write a letter or email them or both & request an explanation of where these supposed arrears have come from. If you only phone them, they can state anything & then deny having given out such information. It may be that you've had long standing arrears that they have failed to inform you about, which is quite normal for the CSA!
In the meantime, I would probably pay your normal £78 by the quickest method available (usually bank transfer).
Keep copies of all correspondence from both parties & send all post by recorded delivery.
Don't be too concerned about the legal action threat just yet. As long as you get in touch at the earliest opportunity & the lines of communication are open, this could & should be resolved quite easily.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. The wierd thing is, as I mentioned, we offered to pay the outstanding amount at the time and that was fine.0
