Prescription pre-payment certificate

Hello there, wonder if anyone has any idea about this:

My partener has recently been diagnosed with a condition that means a fair bit of medication, which will be cheaper with a pre-payment certificate. He's bought one on monthly DD, but the certificate hasn't arrived yet. Problem is, he has a prescription here with 5 items on it, only one of which he needs urgently (runs out today).

What I'm asking is - will the chemist take the email confirmation of the purchase as proof that he has a certificate, and if not, will he let him just buy the one item, rather than forking out for the 6? The other 5 can wait until we get the certificate, as OH has a good stock.

Many thanks.

We had the same situation and our chemist was quite happy to see the letter saying we'd set up the DD. We got all 4 items on OH's prescription with no bother.

You shouldnt have any bother at all. Take along the email and then tick the box on the back of the prescription

I have a pre pay and its held at the chemist that deals with my GP surgery. However I might go into town and pick stuff up and I have never had a problem not producing the certificate
  • I'm with the others. You really shouldn't have a problem. I used to renew my PPC over the phone and was given a reference number until my card arrived. If I went to the chemists, they rarely asked to see the PPC.

So... go to the chemist, armed with your email and you'll be fine!

Thank you very much, all of you. You're right - I went along and they were fine, no problems at all. Phew, didn't fancy forking all that out! I have found out since, that if I had had to pay, I could have claimed it back once the certificate had arrived.

    Many thanks again.
