not having a xmas tree??

hello one and all.
we have decided this year that we are not going to put our tree up.
we have 3 children 7, 5, and 1...however we have lots of ceiling decs..the fireplace is decorated and we will be putting lights up.
theres a few reasons for our decision...not much room being one, baby will pull it down and lastly we are going to family members for xmas day...we will open a few in the morning but the rest will be taken to MIL to open there.

anyone else with kids (or even without) not havinga tree this year...or am i being a bit mean?

I couldn't conceive of Christmas with no tree....we love going and picking one out and then decorating it with both bought and homemade decorations. It's the official start of Christmas in our house. And besides, they are just so pretty and really add a cosy, festive feel to the house in the eveniong with the main lights out and the tree lights twinkling.

Would a baby really be able to actually pull it down? Mine are only 15 months apart and as babies they never even attempted to do that.... they had a go at trying to get at the baubles, but one little !!!!! from the needles and they left well alone,

Seem to have lost most of my Christmas decorations this year, so we have the mirror image, Christmas tree with lots of baubles and lights, and nothing else!! It's the tree that does it for me, not that bothered about the rest.
  • i love a tree too but things have been a bit hectic this year...hed be able to pull ours down..it has a foot missing lol and we dont have th e money at the minute to replace it lol so it would be a balancing act :D

no you are not being mean you are doing what suits you and if it means its safer because of the baby thats being sensible, and no I haven't got a tree and thats my choice

Much better not to set it up than to spend an unhappy Christmas saying "no" to a little one for touching the tree all the time. And good on you doing what suits your family rather than caving to the pressure to have a "proper" Christmas.

I have a 3 and 7 year old and have always had a tree, the kids touch it, but the bottom section is there's to touch, we have a lot of soft or wooden child friendly decorations on the bottom of the tree that the kids can rearrange, they get bored after a while and leave it alone, one of my children is particularly hyper and my tree survives, buy putting decorations for them at the bottom means they are not interested in the nicer adult decorations further up the tree.

hi i put our christmas tree up last week and it lasted 24hours, our 7 month old cat jess pulled it over twice and kept pulling the tinsel and baubles off. I took it down and put it away, we now just have a tiny christmas tree on coffee table. we have other decorations inc a lit up garland on the fireplace so you can still be festive without a big tree. Never really had this problem when my kids were little.

I have a 16 month old who just wants to climb, pull, push and eat at the moment so no tree for us either.

I would rather not risk him hurting himself and like someone else said i would just be saying 'no' all the time which i don't want to do, and we live in a v small house so at the moment its just not practical.

but we do have lots of lights and bits of tinsel up higher so it looks different.
