Hi Dragon,
Can I join this challenge please??? I have a diary that I started last year called 'My Olympic Challenge' as my DFD was July 2012, however I fell off the wagon, added a bit more to the mountain and that date has slipped to early 2013!!
This challenge is just what I need to try to throw a bit more at the debt and get it clear by 2012 so I'm really keen to join. I love the idea of seeing the %'s too as they make the small dents more visible somehow.
My / our debt stands at £61,830 which is massive (and that's the first time I have confessed what a mess we have got into). I figure there is no point in not being honest as denial is what has allowed us to get to this point. We are throwing about £2k per month at it so it could be achievable in 30 months if I'm clever with my CC shuffling and keep most of it on 0% or low LOB. I think it will go down more quickly as I snowball some of the loan payments that are due to finish this year at the CC debt! Here's hoping!
I'll post my payments at the end of each month - less interest payments so it's the actual dent in the origial amount that is recorded. It's paying the interest (dead money) that annoys me so much so that will hopefully keep me on track this time .... and all of you in the Olympic Team!!
Will wait for my number and update signature accordingly!
Thanks for the challenge and the reason to confess!

Morning everyone and happy new year
and all of you in the Olympic Team!!

Hi Lewby and welcome. I like the thought of us as a team - it seems to make it easier than just thinking of this as some mountain I have to climb on my own. We should have team t-shirts
I didn't think I'd be able to update until Monday, but a couple of standing orders have gone out so that's another £128.84 onto my total. I'm off to update my signature.

Well the £60k target I've set myself is a mighty leap if I manage it. Although I'm not including mortgage, this £60k does refer to tax payments too (I'm self-employed) so will definitely not clear my debt and itr will not allow for interest. It's just a straight £60k. Hopefully I will exceed the £60k though. It's a very tough target I've set and I will be amazed if I manage it but I will give it my best shot.
So how does this work. On another thread where someone does totals, the payments are posted in bold/colour/larger fonts. I will do that here too.
So, the first little step to pay £60k is £25.01 to one of my CCs.0 -
Dragon put me down please - my total is around £18k and I really need to address it, so this is just the challenge I have been looking for.SPC 2011 #758 - no target just a surprise #20 - £365 in 365 days 4/365 Olympic chal #46 - debt free by July 2012 £6739/£189390
