Can't log into my router. Suggestions please?

Belkin wireless router, model no. F5D7633-04.

Laptop(s), other pcs, xbox etc all connect wirelessly. Main pc connected to router by ethernet cable.

Since around the time I put Windows 7 on the main pc, we've had all manner of problems with the router. I'm unsure it that's linked or just a co-incidence. (Old router now so no dedicated Win 7 driver as such.)

I have to reset the router at least twice a day, otherwise I get the 'page not found' message, no matter if I'm using the wired main pc or a wireless laptop.

Today, I tried to log into the router and although I do get the Belkin Router page up when I type in 192.168.2.1, as soon as I put in my password and press submit, I get the 'page not found message' again. If I try again, I don't even get the Belkin router page and I have to reset the router again.

I don't know if the router is just on it's way out now or if there is something simple I could tweak. Any ideas?

I don't think there is going to be a simple fix.
If you are trying to log in to the router, make sure you do it from a wired connection in order to eliminate any wireless issues.
You could look if there are any firmware updates available for the router, after that a factory reset may help, but I doubt it - and you would have to set eveything up from scatch again.
If it were just internet connection issues, then I would look further afield, but if you are having problems accessing the router at all, then that's not good.

The first thing I'd try is using a different PC if you have one and if the same a factory reset of the router. You'll need to set up your ISP login, WiFi, etc. again so make sure you have all the necessary info before doing it. Also check online for the default admin login info.
  • Just press the little reset button on the router and the username/password should reset to admin / admin.

Also try using 192.168.1.1 works for my belkin

According to http://www.speedguide.net/broadband-view.php?hw=181 the default IP given by the OP is correct for his router.

If still no joy, give Belkin support a ring. For all the criticism they receive - some of it deservedly so - Belkin do their best to resolve issues on the phone. The life-time warranty is essentially life-time support I suspect. I will preempt the sarcastic replies with regards to the life-time warranty: 'You'll need it!'

    Thanks all.

Router acts the same way whether wired or wireless connection is used and with all computers. I disconnected everything and tried them all one by one, it seems a little better with the wireless laptop connection...when I say better...what I mean is there was a couple of occasions I managed to get logged in but as soon as I clicked a menu option on the left...I got the page not found again. If it's wired, I can't even get logged in.

I do have a firmware update for it but I can't get to the page to upload it, and even if I do, I suspect I may only have the page for a few seconds before I get the page not found message again. If that happens during the firmware update it may end up bricking the thing anyway?

As for the lifetime warranty, I suspect I have no proof of purchase after all this time so might struggle to invoke that.

Routers have moved on since I bought this one so if I'm having to look at replacing it, I'm not too bothered. I just thought I'd see if it was something simple first.

Just as an aside....any recommendations? Prefer 'n', and able to handle gaming without lag issues and multiple wireless connections without dropping to a crawl (although I realise that has to do with bb itself also).

I recently got a Draytek vigor 2820n router and its great but it does cost fair bit. The netgear routers are also good too.

When I got my new router I also replaced all wireless cards to wireless 'n' I copy large files over 8gb sometimes over network and it handles the files certainly much quicker than when I used wired on my old dg384g router.

I also upgraded some of the mimo aerials on router and network cards to improve reception even more

We have most evening 3 computers running on wireless and no lag at all, the router does have Qos to handle data.

IME with Belkin the serial number might just suffice;)

OP ~ you still havnt done a basic RESET

At the back of the unit will be a very small reset button. With it powered on keep the button pressed for approx 30 seconds whilst the router resets itself

Then you should be able to log in using 'default' settings and take it from there

To not even try seems a tad daft to me
