Hi all
I wonder if anyone can help - I am in the USA & would like to buy an electric KitchenAid mixer as they are so expensive at home - the savings to be made here are really big. However - I am not sure whether it will work back home in the UK - I thought that maybe I could get some kind of converter so I can use it when I get home. Anybody know anything that might help please? I donlt want to make an expensive mistake!
BTW I am only here for a couple more days so if you do know, please get back to me ASAP. Thank you in advance from 112 degree Arizona!!
cheers

Check the voltage that the item works on USA is different from UK.
US is 110 volts and UK is 240. Also check the hz (hertz) UK uses 50hz, and US uses 60hz. Some electrical items will be usable in both countries, and label on item will read something like: 110-240v 50/60hz. That means it would be suitable for use in UK, if it just shows 110v 60hz, then only usable in US.0 -
Hi
Even if it's 110v and only for use in the US don't despair. I used to work abroad and came back recently, but most of the electrical items I own are 110v, ( Laptop, iPod etc ).
I just went out and bought a convertor for about 15 quid from my local electrical store ( I would recommend one of those local family owned electrical store's not a chain, as the people that work there tend to actually KNOW what they're talking about ) , this convertor is quite a heavy duty one and can handle pretty much any electrical appliance thrown at it.
And yeah you're right, Electrical goods are WAY cheaper over there.0 -
What you will need is dependent on the wattage of the appliance, some step down, step up converters are listed here:

If you get the step-up and step-down from the above site you can't go wrong. Only £19.55.

Sorry but that will most certainly not be suitable as its only rated at 85watts and most food mixers/processors are rated +300watts.He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0 -
Watt watt watt? Only three watts, your'e not very bright tonight Neddy! (Old goon show joke)
The site does have a 500w rated converter, mind you its almost £50 so would probably negate any savings made in the US of A.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Get one from Maplins - they'll advise you which one suits your needs best as its appliance dependent. I've got one and it works a treat. Anout £30Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
