Do you have a cool box with the blue ice packs? Leave the coolbox outside or shed and keep replacing the packs as much as possible or needed. Should be ok for a few days.

  • Thanks for your replies. It's the freezer it won't fit in. I have been running the freezer down for weeks but it wont fit between the shelves and they are attached to the freezer so even if it was empty I couldn't get it in there.

At the moment its wrapped in foil, in a cardboard box and back in the rabbit run! I havent got a cool box so seems the next best thing. Just hope the cold snap lasts.

Bring it inside and thaw it out, cook as normal and freeze in portions in gravy.
On the day just reheat it in the gravy so that it won`t dry out.
Perfect and it should fit in the freezer once its been "dismantled" :D

  • I have heard of people hanging stuff on the clothes line to keep cold and away from foxes/rats etc.
Away with the fairies.... Back soon
  • i've noticed when i put out the bird food and water the last few days the water is frozen solid in the tub, so i'v tipped it out onto the table and refilled the pot. i now have a line of 4 'icecakes' on my garden table that have not thawed at all during the day, so it's stayed frozen. might be worth having some water in a plastic pot outside tonight and tip it out tomorrow, and refill with water, and if they start to defrost you'll know your turkey is too... a bit longwinded but might be an idea....

Do you know anyone with an electric saw who could cut it in half for you then you could put half on each shelf in your freezer?

Freeze ice packs (or bottles of water) in all that nice space you have in the freezer, and pack those in with it. stuff any gaps in the box with newspaper to insulate. Check the cold packs/water regularly and change if it looks like they're warming up.
  • Try making flirty eyes at your local butcher if you bought it there, and see if he will stick it in the cold store ,or even a greengrocer as they sometimes have a cold store

Defrost it, cook it, carve it & refreeze it. I'd defrost it now in fridge, cook it Monday or Tuesday (I have known them to take a long time to defrost) then freeze it in portions. Make the day easier too. If you feel confident doing it try the garden/garage options.
One day I might be more organised...........
