my problem with tha abbey

have a very small mortgage selling my house as husben is now out of work due to ill health with his spine. so need a mor pratical house found a property the same price as im selling mine so the bank says you have to make new agreement but you wont get it because your on income support we have been for 6 months were not asking for more or less just so we can move had our mortgage for 15 years with the abbey never missed payments been loyal un till hitting hard times now if you know anything about this situation could you let me know thank yoi

Any change of address will be treated as a new application$ unfortunately you no longer meet lending criteria so will be a straight decline0

Ross123, There is a good chance that you WILL be able to get the new mortgage. As an existing Abbey customer, it is likely that your application will need to go to Head Office Underwriters.
If I understand you correctly, you have no 'earned' income - Abbey will only consider existing customers who are in receipt of benefits only. Due to ill health you HAVE to move. You are taking the same amount of mortgage and not increasing your debt or lowering your loan to value (Buying a property of the same value that you are selling)
I think you would be best to go to an Abbey branch to put your case forward. The application will probably decline at the first meeting, but ask them to appeal it on the above grounds. I would be VERY surprised if it was not accepted.
