hmm yes this year has been a very frugal Christmas, we've only bought gifts for the kids in our family. i don't buy into the big spend xmas anyway! it has always been about being with the people i care about.

even though i am br i don't feel debt free, i wonder when that realisation dawns?
  • confused, I only wanted to buy for our 2 this year and tasked dh with calling his friends and the family which we always used to buy for and telling them we weren't doing so this year.

Well, he didn't get round to it and the presents have been arriving, so I have had to go and buy some for other peoples children, and send them. I am not happy about it at all. But what can you do?

I did limit the amount to a fiver per child, but as each of these families have 3 children then it mounts up.
  • If they dont live locally, buy from the Jan sales and post after christmas.. iv dont that before..

But, you dont have to buy for their kids just because they have bought for yours.
We have families with 3 kids and rather then get them nothing we bought a tin of chocolates between the 3 of them, the chocs cost £5..

I get annoyed at all this ''tit-for-tat' thing at Christmas....we've got into a habit of confusion love and best thoughts with material gifts.

I go all out for my own kids..within reason......even if it means sausages -[-sorry, after yesterday's bill, it's now down to roadkill...] for me on Xmas day.

But I still have to send out some cards...some are from last year anyway.....I ususally only send to folk I know, who haven't been seen for a long time....just a 'contact' thing really.

This year my mum and dad bought the savings stamps from Morrisons, which was fine but we were of course tied to the one supermarket.

We have agreed that next year we are going to put by £2.00 a week in a jar and let it mount up, so that way we can shop around and take advantage of all the shops special offers.

We are also going to get a pre-paid credit card, dh will get one through his bonus scheme which will be handy as that adds up to a little bit by the end of the year, we have got the boys presents this year through it, so they will be happy boys christmas morning!!
