Morning all, I have a joint of gammon to cook for the 27th of december and wondering what/when would be the best way/time to cook it?. The joint weighs aprox 4kg, i was going to put it in the slowcooker on christmas day night and then finish it in the oven on boxing day morning as my cousin wants it browned off but i am not sure if this will work, she also wants it studded with cloves do i slow cook it with the cloves or leave them untill i put it in the oven? sorry for all the questions but i have never cooked a gammon joint this size.

I have never cooked a gammon in a slow cooker. I would put a carrot, bay leaves and a few crushed peppercorns in the slow cooker. You could add a few cloves.
Take it out of the cooker, remove the skin if you have kept in on. Cut a criss cross pattern into the fat and paint it with a glase. I use honey and mustard. Put cloves in the crosses and put it in the oven 400F, 200C, gas Mark 6 for about 20-25mins.
The stock in the cooker will make a nice pea or lentil soup.'You can't change the past, you can only change the future' Gary Boulet.

Second Nigella's coke receipe - but it needs to be regular coke. Used diet last year (as was all I had in ) and it wasn't nearly as nice.0
