I know someone who has to use his on credit card to fund to pay his business fuel and hotel bills , then crosses his fingers they pay him in time to pay the bill off

Yep, this is pretty standard nowadays, as is a car allowance rather than being provided with a car.

OP, the wording of the contract would appear to cover this situation. They could withdraw your company phone (as per the contract), and then argue that the allowance is a new perk, not an alternative to your old agreement.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • If it happens why not go for a simplicity type contract? Then there is only a 30 day tie in, as well as some minutes and texts :)

I agree that the wording of the contract states that they can withdraw the mobile phone and I do not dispute that.

However, it does not state that I must have a personal mobile phone for work.

My opinion is that if they wish that I have a mobile phone for work purposes (which I do need), they must provide and administer a contract.

A mobile phone is not part of your contract. If you require a phone as part of your role then you have to have one.

Why not use your personal phone? I worked for a blue chip company and had to be "on call" during the weekend to provide support and sometimes go in. If you go over your minutes then just charge it to the company :)
