Help - Xmas treats - no dairy no soya no nuts

Hi all
I'm hoping you can all help me. I have friends coming to tea on Saturday who are allergic to dairy, soya and nuts.
We are planning party type food - sausage rolls, cakes etc, suitable for children, but I am stuck given the allergies.
All OH can suggest is chopped veggies and fruit
Please can you suggest - or point me in the direction of suitable receipes

It is so difficult to be sure what you buy in the shops is 'free' from all those allergy provoking things so it might be better to play safe and make your own from scratch - these spring to mind : -
Sausages on sticks - Pigs in blankets on sticks;)
Fruit kebabs (thread grapes, mandarin segments, pineapple or melon chunks on to cocktail sticks}
Mini jacket potatoes with savoury / chilli fillings
"Kebabs" made with folded ham strips, mini toms, mini sausages, cucumber, peppers etc
Scotch Eggs
Crudites - raw carrots, celery, cooked beetroot, peppers, cucumber cut into fingers and have french dressing as a dip...
Jelly - on its own or with added fruit
Hot dogs with ketchup / relish

jam tarts...plain for the allergies and with a swirl of clotted cream for everyone else...same with scones topped with good jam ...and cream for the cream lovers...
at this time of year there's loads of party finger food to buy such as those little crispy pancake rolls ,veg ones or duck/chicken...or home made chicken goujons with sweet chili dip...mini pitta's and various dips...mini jacket potatoes and home made chilli...
got carried away then...thought i was planning my new years buffet.....hope it helps...0 -
For cakes, I make an apple cake that is simple but lush and dairy/soya free. The recipe does have nuts but I always leave those out anyway, still tastes good. I don't think I can post links yet, but if you google "Jewish Apple Cake" you should find a variation of it pretty easily. I discovered it one day searching for a way to use up a bag of apples which DH said were too tart for eating and was thrilled to have another dairy free (I'm intolerant) cake recipe. But for those who can have dairy, it is apparently even nicer served warm with custard. :drool:
A lot of carrot cake recipes are dairy free as well, just leave off the cream cheese icing.0 -
er - havent heard before of anyone allergic to soya! that was my substitute for dairy for my son. makes me feel ill to learn he could be soya allergic when it was thought no - one was allergic to it! is this a 'new' allergy?0

the question is are they actually allergic or just fussy cause having googled it its not exactly common to be allergic to dairy and soyaReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. Are you positive it's soya and not gluten or something similar?

Whilst soya allergy isn't as common as dairy, it's a pretty straightforward "protein" one (ie, usually proper allergy, not just intolerance).
Give the OP a break, she's trying to do her best for her guests.
If you need a milk replacement that isn't soy/nut (for baking, say), you'll need to be looking at oat or rice milk, both of which are rather thin.
In terms of marge for baking, read the packets carefully - dairy/soya creep in all over the place. Pure sunflower spread (the one in the yellow tub NOT the green soya one!) might be your best bet...0 -
I'd have a chat with your friends and see what they suggest, I'm dairy and corn intolerant and it's often much easier for me to suggest things than others - nothing worse than someone spending ages arranging something for me and then me realising that actually they have missed a hidden ingredient!
I also hate the idea of people spending money and time on my dietary needs, it's my problem not theirs and I'd rather people didn't "faff" too much (although I'm touched that people do!)Piglet
