Cash machine stealing money

A few weeks ago I went to a cash machine in Leeds, this particular one was Lloyds TSB on Vicar Lane. I went to get £50 out of my HSBC bank account, however unfortunately for me the machine was faulty and failed to give me the money. Also I didn't select to have a receipt. The machine acted normally asking me to take Card and then cash but no cash came out. I was paranoid about this so later went to a HSBC cash machine to print a mini statement, it appeared the faulty cash machine had taken the money out of my bank account, not only this but the time in the cash machine was wrong saying 12:30 when the actual time was around 18:05. I phoned my bank the next day and they launched an investigation, and they gave me the money back provisionally until the investigation was over. However the Lloyds TSB bank are claiming that I did receive the money. I have a friend who also went to the same cash machine and it took £20 off him, fortunately he had a receipt and he has received the money back.

What can I do to get this money back!

OP - Wait until the bank have investigated there is nothing further you can do. In the meantime they have credited you with some funds until it has been resolved.

You're actually only required to wait two working days. Ring the Debit Card/ATM disputes team on 01928 58 44 12 who will liase with A&L and get the money back.

Isnt there always a camera that can prove if you took the cash or not?

It makes me worry I always just withdraw 250 at a time, maybe smaller amounts are less risky.

There are no cameras, the machine has to be counted to get the money back.

I suspect there would be an uproar if they placed cameras on cash machines. If however they do initiate such a scheme I will volunteer to monitor the system, think of all those videoed PINs

The audit logs show when a transaction has failed for any reason. They also show what notes out of what hopper/cassette (where the money is stored) are issued. So, they can balance the cashpoint and look at the audit rolls to see what happened.

With many remote machines or machines that are balanced just once a week, you do have to wait sometimes.
