I was a bit scarred to set it up as I am a novice when it comes to computers.
I would follow the instructions carefully.
On mine which is set to NTL cable, It asked me to make sure that the modem & router were switched off when I had to insert the installation cd & followed the "Wizard".
Make a note of the security code mine was something like "bskdfuisd3ffdd4es",
you will need this for your laptop adapter card set up.
Its important that you have security set up , otherwise anybody nearby, will be able to connect to your internet connection !!!!
Hope this help a bit.0 -
i did set it up ,everything was recognised on its own
i am unable to confirm the security settings and how to set it up yet0 -

You need to set this up asap. The manual for your router should be quite detailed for doing this, here are some pointers you want to look for,
1) Set up WPA security, not wep, wep is very easy to crack & there are plenty of programs around that will do this. WPA can still be cracked but it takes longer.
2) Use MAC address filtering, get the mac address of the devices you use on the network including your computer that is hardwired to the router. To do this go to control panel, network connections & double click on the connection that the computer uses. Click on support, then details, & the physical address is shown (MAC address). Write this down for each computer/laptop you use & follow the router instructions to enter these into the settings. No other device other than these MAC addresses will beable to connect, so even if your encryption is cracked you'll be safe.
3) To be extra safe you can turn of transmit SSID, so no one else can see your network. You have to set everything up first though or your own computers won't see the network.
This may seem OTT, but there are people out there called wardrivers who hack into peoples networks for a hobby. I have all three things setup. It amazes me the amount of networks out there that are not secure because many people do the basic setup, it works so they don't worry about security. Good luck!Next year we'll be millionaires!0
