As mentioned above it does seem a good idea to prompt them to act by saying that the offer will only be available for a limited time. This made me think however would it be worth including in the letter something along the lines of
Due to a change in personnel circumstances I am now in a situation where I will be leaving the UK for the foreseeable future, I would like however to clear my outstanding debts prior to leaving, so that should I wish to return in the future I will have no further complications. At present a family member is willing to provide me with some financial help in achieving this goal, but is not is a situation to provide the whole amount blah blah blah….
Or is that laying it on a bit thick?0 -
I sent the letters off to my 4 creditors off last night...
BUT I have just recieved a call from my DMC to give me my current debt figures, which will be posted to me soon, I was then told it was important that I did NOT contact my creditors as I would be unable to get a reduced settlement from the DMC if I did.
Now the worry has set in, have I done something wrong?

Who is your DMC? Not that it makes any difference, I'm just being nosey
I used Debtcall and they would tell me not to contact creditors direct but to go through them. I reckon it's because they don't want you to pay it off - the quicker you pay it off, the less fees they get (£31.50 per month in my case). I soon got peed off with them, cancelled the DD to them and contacted the companies myself - most were better to deal than Debtcall ever were :rolleyes:Bulletproof0 -
Thanks for helping to put my mind at ease, still a little worried but not quite so much.0

Have you cancelled with the DMC yet?

I assume that they would write to the creditors and get a reduced settlement from them (as they would give you), and then the DMC would add a bit for themselves! I agree with Troo, I suspect they're trying this on to get more money out of you for themselves.

Good move. I understand now. I hadn't realised that you'd only just started with the DMC.
