What size envelope to take a greetings card -A4 folded in half ?

Well A5 is half the size of A4, so I imagine an A5 envelope would do.

do try and fit it in A5 - if you go over the A5 envelope size (called C5 for whatever strange reason) you will pay more postage.0

You will not fit an A5 card into an A5 envelope, you need a C5 envelope.0
