Does anyone have knowledge or experience of these guys?

My freind came to me in such a state, £26k in debt, these guys have offered to take up the debt, told him they could cut it by 75%... The truth being they are adding on £12k over 5 years (with a review to increase payments in year 3).

He asked me to call BE because realising his mistake told them he didnt want to take the application any further and they became 'menacing', called him four times in 3 hours asking him to sign and send off the application forms and even sent someone to his house to collect his passport?!?!?!?!

I did call (knowing they wouldnt be able to discuss the details re data protection etc), but just to add a note to his file that he wouldnt be returning the agreement and didnt wish to take out the finance. The man I spoke to was pleasant to start with, then became absolutely vile. He was, as my friend said mencing and threatening, bulllying and frightening. I can, and did hold my own but by the end of the call not only were my hands shaking but my whole body, I think from shock.

To anyone who has half an idea, especially MSE's, there are clearly better options, sadly my friend does not have a clue.

An additional worry is that he gave them his debit card details so they could 'make sure' the first payment came out then a DD would be set up.

Can he just cancel his card do you think? Is there any action he should take to ensure safety of his passport and account details or anything else they may have hold of?

What a mess.....

They cannot take money from his account without a signed agreement.
If they try then he should ask his bank for a chargeback and report it to the police as theft.

I agree but they have to adhere to strict guidelines. Because of the direct debit guarantee they cannot take money from an account without having documentary proof that monies are owed.

I guess you've done this, but to just to check .... he should contact one of the following ...

    Local Citizens' Advice Bureau

    CCCS

    National Debtline

    Payplan
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

Thanks for the valuable thoughts and info.

Can't understand how someone can do that for a job and be at ease with themselves, but thats a whole different matter for discussion..
