Breadmaker Crisis!!

Options
Help pls. I'm new to going Old Style, but have had a breadmaker for a while now, I've only ever done the ready mixed packs with success, but now I am ready to do a loaf from scratch. Bought all the ingredients BUT now I can't find my Breadmaker instructions to find the guidelines etc, I know it wants liquid first and I have got the measuring cup but don't know what quantities of flour etc I should be putting in. The make is a Delta, was bought from Aldi.

PS I have been having great fun printing out all your recipes and trying some out. The forum is great!!

Ta V x

Sorry Vickyn I've looked everywhere and can't find one for that make, you could experiment with a Morphy Richards recipe or go back to Aldi and ask them if they can get a manufacturers address for you to write to.

You could try the generic recipes on the Carrs Breadmaker site?

Great flour by the way, and at a good price at the moment in our Tesco.

Thanks guys, I will email Aldi to see if I can get a manual, its not like me to lose things though so I'm guessing its around somewhere, if only I knew where!! I will try the Carrs website, it is their flour I got from Asda, think it was 98p...

I had the same problem when I decided to start using my BM again. I tried a few different recipes without success then I found Squeaky's basic loaf recipe.

I use this all the time now and have good results every time. I also use it as a base for other breads like cinnamon and raisin or honey and sunflower or substitute some of the white flour for wholemeal.

  • when I got my breadmaker my OH cut all the pages out of the instruction book and put them in those plastic covers in an a4 folder. Not much use to you now but may be a tip for some one else. It also means that when I scatter ingredients everywhere I can shake them off and the pages are still readable.

Another slant on that, which I did for my son's family recipe book - buy photo albums with the lift up clear sheets ;):D

Great idea! These albums aren't usually acid free so the paper will eventually need to be replaced as it will start to break down, but MUCH MUCH slower than mine are doing - which are covered in butter, fruit stains etc etc. Since I'm not using those albums for my pictures any more, I will use your idea for my recipes!

You can get cookbook stands with protective covers, like this: http://thecookskitchen.com/browse_7298?PHPSESSID=9701566856e67f9d9664dda1a739127a

Now why didn't I think of that! Brilliant. Our collection of recipe cuttings has just burst its bindings, so I'll look for an album or two at the weekend.

(Wonders aloud - are Boots still doing BOGOF on albums?)
