Single default can I get a car loan?
Hi,
I've a single default registered against me that is two years old. I have a number of other agreements that show on my credit report as 5 years of green O's.
My current Car finanace (which was taken out before the default was registered) has a year to go but I'd like to replace my car by paying off the finance and taking another loan with the same monthly payments.
Is there any chance of finding finance at a reasonable rate given the default on my credit report?
Would finance through a car dealer be a better option or will nobody touch me for another 4 years?
Thanks.

Is the default marked as satisfied? If so you might be okay, given the rest of your credit history is good.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Doubtful. I couldnt back in December 2000. I had a satisfied default and no credit company would touch me. I started with rebuilding my history - was about 2 years before i could get a barclaycard and a few years after that i managed a very good rate with DirectLine Loans.0

if its your only default and you've got other credit facilities that are current and being run well, i should imagine you'd be able to get car finance no problem.
how about the company you are currently with?0 -
Thanks for the replies.
It is my only default, it's not satisfied but that's a long very complicated story. Some of it has been paid back but this doesn't show on my record just an amount that is sort of what was outstanding on the account two years ago. It was a joint account and is being paid back from two different sources and is currently in a bit of a mess as it has been assigned to two different companies.
All my other credit accounts are being run correctly, car loan, credit card, catalogue account etc and have been for the 5 years showing on my credit report.
I'm not sure who to approach really regarding a loan. Do you think a Car dealer would be the best bet as the finance would be secured against the vehicle? I'm sure the 'cheaper' loans would not be offered to me if I was to apply.0
