i must admit i was inspired with another thread, where someone made a home made piggy bank...and that's what gave me the idea to do them for my kids...
basically blow up a baloon.....then paint over with pva glue and place peices of ripped up newspaper on the baloon.. in layers makng sure there is plenty of glue... i normally leave to dry between layers....the old paper mache...
leave a gap just big enough to put sweets or small prezzies etc..i normally leave this gap at the end where you tie the knot in the baloon..once the paper has dried and hardened... burst the baloon ..i done this with a long darning needle and with wool on the end .. burst it at the opp end to the gap..and thread right through the mould to opp end the wool or string should be long enough to go through the mould and plenty left so when the pinata is finished can be tied up...
fill the mould with whatever goodies you want, the cover up the hole in the same way as you made the baloon....i also find if you rinse a bake bean tin... this is ideal for balancing the baloon while making it...
once the goodies are sealed inside.... i had the kids to paint funny faces on them.. with wool for the hair.....
we hung them up on the washing line, and the kids had a great time....
so now we are going to do some for the school fete..... a charge so much per pinatoa for the kids to bash, and there will be various donated prizes inside...
link this is one they are selling in woolworths for £9.99
so by doing one yourself you can save loads.. and also put in them what you want......
hope this will usefull if anyone has a birthday party coming up

Brilliant. How do you hang them?Sealed pot challenge 5430 -
hi.. the wool/string that you have threaded through.. should be long enough to go through the mould....and have quite a bit left over to tie to something....i tied them to the washing line.. i also put a light coloured mat on the floor so the sweets were easy to spot once they cam out....
i have been thinking about what other shapes to do.. and what i could use... any suggestions.....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Thankyou for that I think maybe a cracker shape would be quite easy to make. If you use thin caboard to make the three rolls and tie it like a crcker while the paper mache is wet. Will have a go and let you know how I get on. Best wishesSealed pot challenge 5430 -
that sounds good, but as my hubby just reminded me we used wallpaper paste in the end as i dont know why but the pva was drying sticky....
also you could make these for any occasion..... even adult parties...like new year's eve etc.... my hubby wanted to do a load with flour in for the next bike rally.....so if you see a load of people riding motorbikes with flour all over them, you know whats happened....you could even hide clues in them for a treasure hunt......the list is endless really....and really cheap as welll, plus you are making another use for old newspapers.....Work to live= not live to work0
