what's the score with maternity pay now?

Hi. It really depends on what your company offers. As you have worked for your company for more than 1 year you will be entitled to statutory maternity pay which is 90% of wages or £102.50 (I think it might be a few £ more but not sure) for the 1st 6 weeks (which ever is higher), then you will get £102.50 for the next 20 weeks. If you are lucky enough to have your baby after April 2007 then you get maternity pay for 9 months not 6 as it is at the moment. Some companys offer 50% of salary for the time you are off and if you are really lucky you might even get your full wage (but this is rare).
I am on maternity leave at the moment and to be honest you cant really think you will get maternity 'pay' because it is a pittance and not enough to survive on. However, the joy you get out of a baby is more that enough compensation!!
