P60 is wrong....

in Cutting tax
My P60 which was issued this year is wrong. I did post on this site months ago, but I can't find it anywhere (new to this site and confused lol....so I'm going to start again).
Between February and September 2008 I was working at a very small, just set up company and would often be paid in cash into the bank, not on time etc - but would still receive printed payslips. The company went bust in September, so I went and got a new job and thought nothing more about it - until I got my P60, and it was basically 4k less than it should've been. I spoke to my trainee accountant friend, and he said that if the company owner wasn't paying taxes on my earnings, then quite possibly this is why those amounts I was paid were never offically registered - so it basically looks as if I never worked there at all, as my P60 only showed what I earned in my new job between September 08 - April 09.
Anyone shed any light on this?

Did you get a P45 from the bust company when you left|? If not, then the P60 will correctly only show your pay and tax from your new employer.
Your issue is therefore with the bust employer and as they have gone bust, there seems little point in talking to them. You need to write to your tax office giving them details of the old employment and enclosing copies of the payslips. If you think the paylsips are wrong, you need to state how you think they are wrong. Tell HMRC that you think some of your earnings were not subject to PAYE and what you think your pay should be. They may go after the old employer if there is a chance of redress, but dont hold your breath. Its your NI conts you really need to ensure have been paid or credited to you.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
No I didn't, they literally went bust overnight - I turned up for work after a two week holiday and found that they were gone, and apparently bailiffs had turned up etc etc.
So I basically earned 4k....maybe nearer to 5k that I can't prove. I fear this will get me into trouble with the folks at tax credits, as when I renewed my claim, I told them what my P60 amount "should" be, as if I'd have told them what it actually was, I'd have been down as being severely overpaid.
I have my payslips, so I can prove I was paid the amount I'm claiming I was, so I'm holding tight for someone to contact me, not much else I can do I guess!?0 -
Well, if you fear the tax credits people, you need to keep quiet about it and forget it I guess.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
