    what reason would I have for raising a notice of dispute if I know that the debt is genuine?
    Do you have a copy of the orginal default notice? , do you know the date on it is correct?

    Hi, no your not being thick !

    The best bet is to raise a notice of dispute directly with the Credit reference agency’s., this can be done in writing, or online / via e-mail/

    They will then contact the data controller on your behalf and ask them to verify the data they have submitted, then one of three things will happen;

    1) Data control responds and verifies data is correct ( information remains on file )
    2) Data control responds and verifies data is NOT correct ( information is removed from file )
    3) Data Controller fails to respond to CRA within 28 Days and data is suppressed from file by CRA ( information is no longer “live” on searches Ect, but will remain with CRA in case data controller responds at a later date)

    In respect of item 3 Equifax and Call Credit tend to suppress, Experian tend to just leave the data on and make you go to the Information Commissioners Office if the lender fails to respond
