Cheap pulses?

Am heading into town tomorrow and am wondering if anyone can help reduce time spent travelling around shops and suggest where the cheapest place to get pulses might be. Unfortunately there's no asian shops or 'scoop' shops nearby. The options are Holland & Barrett, Julian Graves or the uaual supermarkets. There is also an independent health food shop which I'll check out.

Thanks in advance.

Try the ethnic foods aisle of the supermarket: pulses are often cheaper there than on the wholefood aisle. Not invariably, though, so don't forget to check the price per 100g!

It can depend on quantity. Some of the larger wholefood shops bag their own dried goods from a larger wholesale bag. What I found with my local shop was that I could get a bag of herbs ten times the size of their standard bag for only twice the price! Our wholefood shop also offers discount for pre-ordering by the case.

Independent shops can offer very good prices if the management are willing to be flexible, it just takes a bit more effort to find out how their discount structure for customers works.

I nearly bought a jar of cumin at Mr t's last week, then went to the ethnic aisle for something else and got a whole 400g bag for £1.59. Pulses cheaper there too.
