How many are you feeding on xmas day? i would say its definitely doable. Problem is at xmas a lot of stuff often goes to waste - last year we were still eating the tinned sweets in June as we were all sick of them  One tin of chocs and some nice biscuits are sufficient.

Most people overestimate the size of turkey they need (my mum bought a 20lb turkey last year - it lasted months in a variety of curries and casseroles!) Do you already have frozen veg in the freezer? If so make sure you remember what you have before you buy more (9 veg in a xmas dinner is usually a waste of time), big bag potatoes, stuffing etc. 3 bottle of pop £1.20 in Asda (get squash for when the pop runs out). You can make your own pigs in blankets (you end up with far more than when you buy them)

Do you have guests coming? perhaps someone could bring a bottle of wine or dessert? Even if not Im sure it can be done on £32 with careful planning. Buy only what you need & what you will eat.

  • How many are you feeding? If it's just you & hubby I'd say it's very do-able.

Suggestion for next year (forgive me if you do this already) - start putting aside a few pounds a month NOW, so your presents, tree & Christmas grub don't have to come out of your normal budget. Or if you think finances are a bit too tight for that, set yourself a challenge to save for Christmas through "free money" - mystery shopping, cashback, bonuses for signing up to certain products etc :)

I'll be spending about £400+ for 2 adults but this includes a lot of booze. I hope to cut down in 2010.

Most supermarkets have been doing incredible deals on wine and chocs/biscuits over the last few weeks. There are usually a lot less deals in the final week as they know they can sell anything at any price then.

This year I stocked up early but that was a mistake as most items have been on offer, November to halfway through December is when most of the Christmas stuff is reduced. Obviously you can only get veg at the last minutes but most other stuff lasts for months.
