Sorry
I should probably have put this on the hamper thread but I wanted the attention of a new thread all to myself
:D:D
My 11yo nephew has requested a bread maker from his parents and I thought what a fab idea it'd be to make him a hamper of ingredients and books to go with this present. I've got a max of £10 to spend on him. I was thinking of two or 3 different types of flour in the small bags but my supermarkets only sell the 1.5kg size (I think I'm thinking of about 500g size) does anyone know where I might be able to get this size from and what else would you put in the hamper - can anyone recommend a good book?

Banana Lovers
Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

Dried yeast
Milk powder
Dried fruit/Sundried tomatoes/Olives/Cinnamon/Cumin
If you do get a book you could look at the specific recipes in the book to get ingredietns - or instead of a book, how about a folder, some punched pockets and have a browse on the Old Style board and print off some recipes from there - leaving empty pockets for future recipes, and saving money for the ingredients - you can then tailor the ingredients to the recipes you have..0 -

Hi - I invested in a breadmaker a few months ago and love it. I haven't bought a loaf of bread since. If buying yeast, you need the fast action stuff rather than the standard dried yeast. It costs about £1. Also, if making anything other than white bread, vitamin C tablets (usually 100g ones) are needed so you could add some to your hamper. Most breadmakers also allow you to make cakes and jam so you could think along those lines too.
Other ideas that work for me are measuring spoons (as the ones you get with the breadmakers aren't great) and a cooling rack. I also need to get my son a cutting guide as he can't cut the bread though! :j:hello:On mortgage pay off countdown. Less than 8 years to go. :j Won £50 Amazon voucher for filling in a survey, £100 shopping voucher, £20 Odeon voucher, £20 bowling voucher :T Doing a £2 terramundi jar challenge but everyone else seems to have the same challenge as there don't seem to be many £2 coins around!:p0 -
Hi
I'm doing exactly the same thing for my dad. I went through the breadmakers manual to get the basic recipe ingrediants.
Still to get the flours but have got packet of yeast, spices, small bag sugar, mixed dried fruit, scales, breadmaking book from £1 shop, cooling rack, bread bags from ebay and plastic clips to seal bags from ikea.0 -
