Small Loan to buy a Second Hand Car

Hi All,
I am really just wanting advice and I hope that this is the right section. I am seriously thinking about getting a new second hand car next year and my budget is about £1000. I currently bank with HSBC and was thinking about talking to them about a small loan to help pay for this car (£1000). Another option would be to get an even smaller loan say £500 and then pay the rest from savings (if i can save that much by then).

Does anybody know how good HSBC are with small loans like these? If they are bad/terrible, then what are my best options? As it stands my credit record is very good with only an Overdraft and Argos Card against my name. (£1450 and £230 respectively).

Kind regards,
James
