in Cutting tax
Hi, hoping someone can help. I'm currently on Maternity Leave and have been on SMP since September.
I usually earn 30k a year and was on normal wage April-September this year.
I'm just wondering now if I'll be entitled to a tax rebate for this period? Or can anyone point me in the direction of an online calculator?
Here the figures if anyone knows
Pay to date: 14,497.69
Tax to date:2035.60
(NI to date:1175.87)
Will be on £520ish a month SMP til April, but am currently only paying NI on this amount, I am not being taxed.
If I am due a rebate, when and how do I get it?!
TIA

You need to speak to your employer. He should be running your SMP through the payroll each month and making tax refunds accordingly.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

If the figures that you quote are your earnings as at month 8 (paid between 6/11 and 5/12 ) and you are on the tax code 647L then the tax figure you have given is correct. Again assuming that you are on tax code 647L and it is not being applied on a month 1 basis then the amount you can earn each month before paying tax is just under £540 so if you are getting exactly £520 you would be entitled to a rebate of a little under £4 a month. If you are getting a bit more than £520 (you say £520ish )then your rebate would be less, falling to nothing at about £540 and if you earned over £540 you would be paying tax.
So assuming my assumptions on tax code are correct you will be due a very small rebate which should be paid by your employer, but it will not be a lot.0 -
Thank you for your help, yes all assumptions were correct!0
