Ice Cream Makers

Options
Any reccys for an ice cream maker, make model results etc my OH loves icecream and I would love to make my own. It must be cheaper than buying it and you have control over what goes in it.

I have had one in a cupboard for over a year that has never been used. It was bought as a present for me.

You need to have a big freezer (eg chest freezer) as there is a big bowl that needs to be frozen to make the ice cream. My freezer has shelves and there is no way I can fit it in.

I'm moving in a few weeks and can't wait to get a chest freezer so I can make my owown

I've got this one,it's cheap and I've been happy with it so far.

It has a bowl which needs to be stored in the freezer so that you can be ready to use it whenever the urge strikes.I made rhubarb and strawberry ice cream tonight.I don't really follow recipes I just blend fruit, cream and/or yogurt, sometimes ready-made custard and sugar.

I must admit I only use it in the summer. It is proving very useful this year,I seem to be getting the hang of ice cream now.My dd can't eat eggs so if I want to give her ice cream made from real ingredients I have to make it myself. The good stuff in shops always has eggs and the rest is just rubbish.

Going to merge these for you, Tootles. I will be watching with interest. I have often wondered if I'd use one or if it would get dusty in a cupboard. (Or if I'd use it too often and be even more over weight...)

I have one in the cupboard with the bread maker and the slow cooker:o

I must admit the odd occasion it's been out we have really enjoyed the ice cream but as already posted they do take up rather a lot of room in the freezer....

I must get it out very soon.

I've got that Philips one too - the bowl fits ok in my freezer (normal upright fridge freezer). It's really easy to make and delicious! I can't say I use it all the time but it was a gift - all the recipes on this board have made me dig it out more often and in the summer I try to make at least one batch a week.

I have this Icecream Maker and I keep it in the chest freezer all the time. I have made all kinds of icecream ~ including christmas cake icecream! I bought a book to start with but once you have the basic mixture you can add anything you like.

I don't use it that often as I would be the size of a house but for a treat its lovely :D far more use than the chocolate fountain :o

I have a kenwood ice-cream maker and i find it really useful. Kids have to have goats milk/cream/yogurt so the maker allows me to make ice-cream for them. I can only get vanilla dairy free in the shops so it's great to make my own.

I've only ever made strawberry ice-cream and it tastes so much better than bought stuff.

I'd love to hear of other HM ice-cream recipes to try *hint* *hint*......

philippas christmas ice-creams sounds interesting *hint* *hint*

Does anyone know a good ice-cream recipe book please?
