Pity about the Body Shop
I no longer shop there now. In fact we don't do Nestle (and asssociated companies), McDonald's, Proctor & Gambol (they test tampons on monkeys!), or Body Shop. It gets harder and harder to avoid unethical companies these days.Buffyslay wrote:ditto - nestle is banned in my house too
hope OP doesnt feel too bashed, not a lot of people are aware of the evils of nestle...
i was so surprised to see Body Shop sell out to L'Oreal - who are owned by nestle...

Pity what started out as a well intentioned informative post has ended up as a soapbox for some..... and somebody who thanked the OP has been slated. Some people need to show some sensitivity, and discuss any issues like this in The Arms.
As Martin says.......be nice to all moneysavers!0 -

The more I read this post the more I agree that this has been used by people to get on their own soap box for what ever cause they believe in.
I started reading this to see how I could keep the kids amused over the holidays but this has been spoilt because I have had to trawl through other peoples opinions something I might add I am not really interested in, as my last post says we all have freedom of choice and I choose not to read yours.
Just an idea why dont you start your own thread and discuss it there.0 -
Thanks Welsh Dragon for another fantastic post! Will be keeping my kids amused til 2007! :T0

Why buy sweets!!!Most sports coaches will happily let you or your children take part in at least one free lesson before they ask you to commit, try asking them!! I did it when i coached and recently (6mths ago)tried out a new sport (karate) with my 9yr old, we got 2 free lessons each and now we are hooked. As for Nestle- i dont buy. there are few as disgraceful as them, we make choices based on information third world mothers dont get. Keep the kids away from sweets (and nestle) where possible. There are better ways to keep your cash and the kids fit and happy.0

Hear hear, if all the people who have a problem with Nestle dislike them so much why did they even bother reading the first post.
Thank you very much Welshdragon and keep up the good work, it is much appreciated in my household:T:pwould like to make it known it is not a DHN, she's dancing
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.:A0 -
Rowantrees has always been one of the best companies for charity work with Joseph rowantree ,the founder of rowantrees confectionary, the most famous with loads of donations being made to poor children - see here http://www.jrf.org.uk/about/history.asp.
Thanks for the post I can understand people may be a bit apprehensive about buying from seedy firms but this post was about a money saving item- which is good and benefical to loads of people.Kids have fun and their parents getto give them a treat they may never have had.PLus i get to munch sweets in the name of giving to my nephew /neices ;-)0 -
You know what, this site is about moneysaving and that's exactly what welsh dragon was trying to do,help people save money, when she kindly posted this offer.
I'm sure she did not expect this to turn into a full blown discussion about the alleged 'evilness' of nestle.
I suggest the mods move any unnecessary posts to another location where those who disapprove can chat about it to their hearts content.
thanks WD for all your money saving posts, they are appreciated. He who smiles rather than rages is always

We all have our own views on the ethics of various companies but I don't think this particular thread started by Welsh Dragon is the place to air them. Perhaps the moderators will do as suggested by Geordielass and move the off topic posts to a more suitable location.0
