I have a real bad tooth absess(sp) and was given the mormal Amoxicillin but also metronidazole. Not sure if related but I feel like ive been kicked in the guts!, really sore and not nice.
Not sure if my problem is related to the tablets but I do suffer with these absesses and never been given these tablets ever before.
Anyone use/take these?

Antibiotics can cause upset tummy.
Metronidazole shouldn't be mixed with alcohol, as that has a really bad effect.
Talk to dentist if your concerned it might be more serious. It's not an unusual antibiotic combination though. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Metronizadole can make horses go off their feed, and occasionally give them colic - so I really wouldnt be suprised if it does similar to humans (after all - it is primarilly a human drug!!)
hope you are better soonDo not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -
I was almost prescribed it a few times - initially by GP, later by dentist (wisdom tooth issues)...GP said that it can cause nasty side effects in approximately 50% of people...nausea, vomiting, etc, so being the coward I am I opted it out of it and instead receive amoxycillin, which, aside from smelling awful, has no side effects for me.0

Once upon a time when I worked for the local PCT most of my workload was emergency dentistry.
When I prescribed Amoxicillin I got much lower sucess than when I prescribed Metronidazole. To the extent now I only ever prescribe Amoxicillin when I don't have a choice.
However all antibiotics can cause upset stomachs etc and metronidazole is quite effective at that!
I think the GP was over exaggerating with the "nasty side effects" bit though.
Oh and yes I have taken it myself on more than 1 occasion so I know how much fun metro belly can be0 -
Just one other thing with antibiotics that should be mentioned - be careful if you're contraception is the pill. They can upset the working of that too.How to find a dentist.

I've had two courses of metronidazole in the last few months, once as part of treatment for h pylori, and more recently for an abscess. I find they give me stomach ache for the first day but then I'm ok if I persevere. The worst side effect for me was extreme tiredness which lasted for about a week after I finished the course. Oh, and a weird orange coating on my tongue which I still haven't got rid of :eek:0

Sounds like a candial/fungal infection as a result of continued antibiotic use and/or lack of Vitamin B6/12 or Iron.
Pop down to your dentist and he may precribe you some Anti-fungals. It may also be worth purchasing a tongue cleaner till then, or just using your toothbrush to remove the coating.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0
