A friend has invited me on his stag weekend in a few weeks I'm trying to squeeze in a bit of money saving. I've already settled on sleeping in the car for the 2nd night but the hotel tell me it's £8 a day to park. Anybody know anywhere walkable but cheap/free?

On the off-chance that someone is looking at this later..
Lord Street, just a minute down the road from the Holiday Inn Express, behind the Vauxhall dealership, no yellow lines sp parked for free from 3pm on Fri until Sunday morning. No pedestrians to disturb my sleep either...0 -

Remember these rooms sleep more than one person and you could book a family room for i think its up to 4 folks at a time, and im sure you could sneak a blow up mattress and sleeping bag in and have more.
Not sure if this part is too late, but if you book your Holiday Inn Express through https://www.pigsback.com it will give you 1500 piggy points worth around £15 depending on what you do with the points (if you staying on two separate days, book and pay for two separate nights and you might get £30 of piggy points). If necessary create an account if you dont already have on in your name and a friends name. You do need to post the receipts off to claim your points though which is the only downside but £15/ £30 for the price of a stamp or two is well worth it. Not to mention the money you can also make through regular click throughs between when you register and go - think of it as free money towards chrismas.
By booking on their website even through pigsback, if you do find a cheaper rate on the internet they guarantee to beat it.
Failing that have a look to see if there is any super saver / saver rooms with a local travelodge which are £15 - £26 a night depeding on how far in advance you book so might be worth a look as I think Holiday Inn's are a bit more expensive.
Hope this helps.0
