Who's the best self cert mortgage lender?

I was just looking for some advice. We are looking to remortgage our home as we currently have two self cert mortgages at ridiculous rate (8% & 10%) and now the redemption penalty period has passed on the main one, we would like to amalgamate both mortgages into one and get a more sensible rate. I haven't got the best credit rating in the world (1 CCJ settled 3 years ago) so I know I can' get the very best but I am sure there must be room for improvement.
We have already been to our local mortgage broker (the same who secured us the 8% mortgage to buy the house 3 years ago) and asked him to look into it for us but that was 4 weeks ago and despite 2 phonecalls from me asking him to call, we haven't heard anything from him. His secretary tells me he is just so busy. However, that doesn't help us get rid of these silly rates any faster and to be honest I am now fed up of waiting for him.
Also, are there any self cert lenders who are doing a free valuation or free/cheap fees?
I knew this would be the best place to ask.
Thanks in advance.

Hi There BenJacksMum
I also have alittle boy called ben
I expect your circumstances may have changed a little since you took the last mortgage, and would recommend you ditch your current lazy @ss mortgage broker, as if he wanted your business so badly he'd have been there like a shot. Imagine what the post sale service will be like if he's treating you like this now?
Anyway, I would recommend that you undergo a full mortgage and protection policy review with another broker who can deal with you in a timely way. The level of information you would have to provide is sadly outwith the scope of this forum to protect your privacy, and it would be a good idea to let your new broker have a look at your credit reports.
If you let me know roughly where you live I might be able to recommend someone close to you, or you could always consider taking advice over the phone as it saves time and is just as easy.
