Hello everyone,
I have what I think is a virus on my laptop for the last 4 days or so- it's called 'Security Tool' and it wants me to download/install it (paying for it beforehand of course!).
Before I go to a computer shop and probably part with lots of £££, can anyone advise how to get rid of it completely please? I've googled it and found some links about removing ST where you save, then install it on your computer and run the scan/quarantine but I can't seem to get to that stage.
I can just about use the internet but it's v slow and it keeps popping up all the time telling me I have x number of viruses etc.
Any ideas please?

Hi there, have been on to the link but I seem unable to run or save the rkill.com- when i click on the link it prompts me to save or run (have tried both) it seems to start then nothing happens. It does not appear as a desktop icon (though have not been prompted to save it on desktop yet), also my DT icons seem to all be hiding since security tool got into my laptop
Any ideas please? Am using the internet at a public PC to post on here as my laptop internet is running v slowly but enough I hope to download the removal info.0 -
Download, install and update Malwarebytes Antimalware. Run that.0

When you've downloaded and run Malwarebytes, save the logfile it creates, and post it on here. Someone will then tell you if you need to do anything else, and what.0 -
if you search this forum for info on the security tool infection, you'll find several threads detailing some unlucky peeps who had this, and with help, got rid. The advice on those threads will hold for you to

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice re uninstalling the 'security tool' virus.
In the end I had to take my laptop to a computer shop, it cost me over £50 but this included the installation of an anti-virus prog...my current one had expired months ago so I did leave myself v vulnerable to a virus.
Anyhow, not particularly money saving, but at least I still have my sanity in that I did not lose any of my documents or photos etc. Going out to buy an external hard drive later, I have learnt my (expensive) lesson...!0 -
Chick ~ whatever problems you had, you could have just posted them here. Theres nearly always someone around to help you through it
It would have saved you 50 quid, we could have put security on, removed the nasty, and to top it all ~
youd have the confidence to do it yourself next time

If the installation of said anti-virus program does expire in a year or so, remember there are plenty of free and excellent alternatives: Avast gets a thumbs up from me; some prefer Avg. Oh, and if you need an anti-malware program (free) download Windows Defender
And have a lovely Christmas, Chick :rudolf:0
