Collar of bacon, in slow cooker?

Hi all,
I have an unsmoked bacon collar joint in my slow cooker to have for dinner tonight (with mash and cabbage yum yum) but just have a couple of questions....
Once its cooked, can I use the stock to make split pea soup? Or would that really only be with smoky ham stock? And does anyone have any idea of exactly how long I need to cook it in SC. It weighs 1.4kg, I currently have it on high (was planning on switching down to low once it looks like has just started to bubble gently), with some leeks celery carrots and onions, and water that is not quite covering the joint...(that was boiling to begin with

Not sure about the stock but you will get alot of water out of the joint anyway so you may want to remove some of the water.
We cooked one in the slow cooker yesterday, about the same size as yours, and it was on from 10am - 5pm and cooked to perfection. I initially started it off with about 1cm of water and by the time it was cooked the water was nearly at the top of the joint.0 -
Thanks
It does have a fair bit of water in there, but hey-if I can make a soup with it that would be great0 -
Yum yum-I left it on low from about 10, took it out at 6, and we had dinner at 630, very yummy, and I have 1.5l of delicious stock to make this tomorrow, in the SC again
I'm not a huge fan of slow cookers for stews and stuff, but seemed to work really well for this, so I won't freecycle it just yet
We also have pleny of leftover bacon for pasta sauce tomorrow (leek, bacon &mushrooms)0
