Can you get two mortgages in principle?

My boyfriend and I want to buy a house and I want the First Direct offset mortgage. For this you need a deposit of 25%. We have that but on the other hand we might decide to buy something nearer, in which case we would only have a 20% deposit. Could we get a mortgage in principle from both First Direct and another company? Or could we get the MIP from First Direct and then if we buy something more expensive, get the real mortgage from someone else? How does it all work?
Thanks

I would only do the MIP once you had decided on the property you want to buy, and therefore know the actual figures involved

I think you can get MIP without credit checks.0

Yes, you can, but they are worthless. An AIP or DIP should include a credit check as this, in many cases, is the big "unknown".0
