Which herbs/spices would you add?

I bought some coconut oil recently. I'm planning to make something tomorrow with it, by frying some onion and chicken in it, adding some tomatoes and simmering, but not sure which herbs/spices would go with it. Am thinking more of the spices really, was thinking of a spicy dish but not a curry.

I have ginger, tumeric, paprilka, cumin, ground coriander, ground cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardomon pods.

Any suggestions please!

  • Definately not the cloves cinnamon nutmeg or cardomon as they are for desserts.

I've added all of these bar the nutmeg to curries before now  and the nutmeg to mashed potatoes!

looking at the spice list to add to chicken onion and tomatoes cooked in coconut oil - whatever you make is going to be a curry! er - I wouldnt use cloves with chicken hun - cant see that going together.

ok, each to his/her own. :D
  • Cardamoms are great with coconut. I agree with those who have said that all the spices mention work in savoury dishes. I hardly ever cook rice without caradmoms, personally!

I'd vote for turmeric and ginger in your dish (it's hard not to call it a curry as it kinda is one!) and some rice on the side cooked with cardamoms.
