M&s food to order

Popped in M&S this morning to place an order for a salmon platter and a piece of gammon. Firstly I couldn't get the time I wanted on the day I wanted to collect, fair enough I said the next day? Yes, that's fine. Then she tells me that they were sold out on both items!! What's the point of setting it up if they run out so quickly
Anyone else had the same problem or are they just picking on me??

marks and spencer seem to be getting worse and worse! They are absolutely terrible at my local simply food store, they seem to have no idea of stock control or they just can't be bothered to fill the shelves . I sometimes wonder if they really want to sell me anything? no wonder i hardly bother going in there now.0

With regards to the OP last orders are on Tuesday 15th so today is actually very close to their deadline hence the lack of slots and stock. They've been taking orders and promoting it for many weeks. I'm sorry that doesn't help you with your Christmas OP I understand how frustrating it must be as a customer...just wanted to explain the reasons. Remember all the threads on these boards about companies deliberately overstocking and chucking it away as waste.
Usual disclaimer: I work for M&S but only as a customer assistant so don't represent the company or have any particular vested interest in its profitability.0 -
Paulwf - yes I do appreciate how close it is to the closing date, but thought that perhaps they would order in enough to cover all the orders placed, not only have a certain amount of stock to allocate to people who place an order in a first come first served basis. I'll know better next year though!!!

As far as I know the same happens most years on popular items, and the same happens with hampers. The recession has actually improved availability as less customers are ordering early.
Not saying their way of handling things is right or wrong, as you say it is just something to bear in mind for next year.
FWIW there will be very similar items available in store so you might find a very good alternative if you are prepared to battle the crowds!0 -
Yes, saw some bargains in there last year. Managed to get a turkey crown for half price last Christmas Eve, which, when we eventually got around to eating it was nicer than the free range one we bought for Christmas Day!!. One of the things we want should be on the shelf leading up to the Big Day but want it for day after Boxing Day so will have to do some date hunting too as it's not freezable!!0
