Children are taken into care for a variety of reasons, not just because of child abuse. I think that there's an enormous difference between taking children into care because they've been mistreated and taking them into care because the parent(s) has nowhere to live.

People do find that this gives them a breathing space of a couple of weeks so that they can sort themselves out and make arrangements for the future.
Sorry I just think its wrong, but then I have people who could look after my boys so they woukldnt need to be put into care.
And yes i know its not just abused children, i didnt say that.
Surely it woul be better for everyone for ss to fund a private accomodation for the whole family than seperate them

    To the O.P

Oh I've been there with the council! ( although I was deemed intentionally homeless from council accom not private rent ) So now I'm having to private rent, as like you housing benefit mucked up somehow, and I got evicted, I wish I knew then what I know now about eviction orders, and know if I fought it chances are I could have stayed.
Sorry I know thats of no help, but myself, OH and 5 year old ( at the time ) have done the staying at friends, the homeless hotels, etc. Its not nice,

Have you tried Housing Associations ? You may very well get knocked back, but we were told to try it. Its worth a shot.

Please dont panic about SS, they are scary, but there goal is to keep familys together, and may very well help. Taking the child away is a absolute last resort.

I wish you well, and if you ever need to chat, feel free to PM me, I 100% know what your going though, and how your feeling.

    Hugs xxxx

But then people would be able to just make themselves homeless and be automatically rehoused by the council and jump the housing queue.

I said private housing as in private rentd accomodation, not go back on the housing list, which as far as I'm aware you can anyway.

Even if you had not left and waited to be evicted. The reason for the eviction would be rent arrears and this would have meant that you would still be classed as intentionally homeless ie you intentionally let rent arrears buildup by not using your HB/ LHA to pay your rent. I accept it would have taken longer to evict, but you still would have ended up in the situation you are now.

The way forward I would suggest is to plead with family to stay with them again and to ask for all Xmas presents to be cash that you can put towards a rent deposit. Keep inquiring about a deposit bond from the council. Have you any family prepared to act as guarantor? That may help finding a private rental. Good luck!

OP do shelter do a drop in service in your area?
Alot of councils hold drop in sessions with shleter and other organisations, if you can manage it, remeber to take any proof of benefits and any other info that relates to your situation, I hope you get it sorted x

Sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought you meant social housing as opposed to b&b/hostel accommodation.

My daughter would be so traumatised after being taken away from her mum i dont think its worth it at all. i dont need breathing space away from my daughter and righht about now she is the only good thing around!!
maybe some people will disagree but to be separated from her would be the worst outcome ever..

The end of the day the probable best road is that of legal advice from a Lawyer. If you were in Scotland there is a few laws that are well' nicely hidden '' as I was once told''
