Additional Holder Credit Card

When you're bankrupt.

Can you become an additional credit card holder? (in this case it's purely for emergencies - not to rack up any debt).

Am I right in thinking you may not use more than £500.00?

The main credit card holder will of course be liable for the account.

  • You can be an additional card holder if someone is silly enough to give you a card on their account :) (joke that last bit!!)
  • I agree...my OH sorted me as an additional card holder on her card a few weeks after I went BR (NEVER used it though in 3yrs)

but as your only an additional holder you didnt sign the credit agreement then the £500 credit thingie wont come into play as its not your account

  • As an additional card holder you are not taking on any extra credit, they are. They wont credit check you as they would be liable for it.

Could someone confirm that this would create a financial link, and would this affect the actual cardholder's credit rating?
  • nope no link.
  • Agreed...........

Thanks for that, very handy to know :)
  • Links are only created by joint liabilities - this is still the sole liability of the account holder, so no link as said above :)
  • In effect, if someone trusted you enough they could apply for a credit card, and another for you. They never use theirs and you pay the bill monthly.. BUT.. you could end up loosing someone close if it went wrong, Iv never liked credit cards and can honestly say I have never had one.. my OH did and got me a additional card but I never ever used it.
  • I argued the toss with my OH said I didnt want the card but with my circumstances etc she said if anything ever happened it could come in handy getting me help...NEVER did use it
