This is all great you guys - its made me realise that i'm better off than many of the poor people I've read about on this board.

My lightbulb moment is approaching: I'm pretty sure that my problem comes down to one thing: spending vast sums on needless rubbish. Ultimatly my financal situation depends on whether I can curb this, and not looking for more debt etc.

Income => outgoings is what it comes down to! Credit cards / parental help / loans / ebaying stuff only hides this fundamental problem. I'm pretty sure this is what many students experience when they enter the real world for the first time.

Thankyou people. Hopefully I'll get myself on the right track and then be able to help others out.

I'd like to hear more on the debt side - any ideas how I could switch my high APR stuff to lower %? I'm not expecting to get 0% (though it would be nice), just reduce it a bit. The first step is to ring the credit card porviders and explain that considering leaving them. I'll let you know if I can get anything out of them.

Just came off the phone to Capital One: they are not going to change my interest rates (what a rip off!). Anyway I've ordered a full set of statements as I'm sure I must have missed the odd payment here or there. Every little helps.

This is the number one priority from the point of view of where to throw money at - 29.9 is so expensive.
