What should i give him???

hi, just hoping for some opinions ...my son is 11 and i got him a bmx for xmas from tescos which was reduced from 120 to 60 pounds, bonus points brought this down in effect to 30 pounds which was an absolute steal, anyway whilst we were on holiday in september i accidentally broke his nintendo and promised him another one (i was hoping to pick up an older one on ebay but they were all going for silly prices so i have not yet replaced it and i am now starting to feel guilty about this). anyway i have recently seen some good deals on new nintendos so i am wondering if i should get him one of these instead and keep the bike for his next birthday or if this is just being mean and tight fisted, although he would be getting a much more modern up to date nintendo rather than a 2nd hand older model he is expecting. also we are going to egypt on 2nd jan and i know from experience that the nintendo is invaluable when travelling... i dont want him to end up getting too much stuff as i have always set a limit of £100 per child at xmas and always try to hammer home that xmas is not just about him getting presents and he is overall not a greedy boy, he doesnt really ask for anything, does not expect expensive, branded clothes and trainers, understands that we live on a tight budget, saves up and buys his own xmas gifts for family members...however he has also just had a birthday in nov so he obviously got stuff then, and his dad (my ex) is getting him an xbox so this year he is due to get loads and i dont want him to think that this is going to be the standard from now on or to not appreciate what he is getting .. what would you do... all opinions welcome

GIVE HIM BOTH As you say he is a good lad, come on its christmas.
  • I agree with the previous comments - you did break his Nintendo!

I know how it can be when money is tight, but imagine his face when he gets a BMX too. You will have one happy boy!

In any other situation I would say just give one but as you broke his ds, I would definitely give both this year.

I don't think you can give the nintendo as a present as it is simply a replacement (I speak as one who dropped my son's DS in a bathroom sink full of water)
  • And give him a hug as well :)

......although he would be getting a much more modern up to date nintendo rather than a 2nd hand older model he is expecting......

You can call it compensation for the inconvenience caused and the length of time he's had to wait for a replacement. ;)

You having to replace something shouldn't affect his presents (or the amount of money spent on them) in any way imo. Also better to deal with the replacement now so he doesn't see it as another Xmas present.

  • why don't you get him both and give him the DS on Christmas eve? explain to him you were waiting for a good offer so you could make it up to him and then he can get his bike for Xmas?

    Give him both :)

The nintendo isn't an Xmas present really, if you broke his original one.
